eSIM, or short for Embedded SIM, is a type of electronic SIM, replacing the usual plastic SIMs today. eSIM has functions that can replace regular SIM but with a smaller size (about 6mm high, 5mm long, 0.67mm thick).

The eSIM standard was first introduced with the Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL products in 2017, and became widely known after Apple brought this technology to the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone trio. Xr in 2018.

These SIMs are soldered directly to the device’s circuit board when manufactured. eSIM will be suitable for use in small electronic devices that do not have enough space to accommodate a physical SIM card such as smartwatches.
